paragliding in wan li

after an hour and a half of driving through the mountains and past all the shrimp fishing farms (weird), we found our destination on top of the mountain past the army base. Marta wanted to sit and relax for about ten minutes before we took the plunge but almost as soon as we were off our motorbikes the were strapping us into our parachutes and getting us to sign for our $6.00 insurance. We went tandem and my dude kept pointing to the island way out in the sea which was directly in front of the edge of the cliff and saying "Just run, keep run and no stop, ok? No stop!" Holy freak me out dude, ok! So once we were strapped in my feet were off the ground while the dude attached to me and another dude were dragging me off the edge of the cliff! I couldn't possibly stop if I'd wanted to I was struggling just to touch my toes every few feet to be able to say I at least had SOME part in running and jumping off a cliff!  So after a few seconds of my futile attempt at participating, we were off the edge and flying. All I kept saying was "Wow" like an idiot and talking out my neck to the dude strapped to my back (I'm embarrassed to watch the video with the sound turned up). But what a feeling!!! It was over in a couple minutes. My guy told me to keep my feet up when landing so I did and when his feet hit the ground they immediately gave way and we essentially landed flat on our asses. Marta wasn't so lucky to have an English speaking guy so seeing as he didn't tell her to keep her feet up, she didn't and when she hit the ground they slid. All in all it was a great day and worth the $30 (around there anyway). The guy told us that we came too late in the day so next time if we come earlier the wind will be better and we'll stay in the air longer.
A surreal experience, I highly recommend it. It wasn't enough for us though so we're on the look out for sky diving places!

Restaurant For Dogs and People

I thought I needed to clarify that one...it's true, there is a restaurant where you can bring your dog and there's even a menu for the little buggers! Crazy. The food isn't really all that great although it's funny for about 5 minutes to watch the dogs interact. Strangely enough it smells like a gerbil cage...

Dirty Pretty Things

We went to the Formoz Music Festival this weekend and had a kick-ass time! Got to see some crazy Japanese bands (spurring a near-future trip to rip it up in Nippon!) as well as Super Furry Animals. The best 2 shows were the Sumurai Punk Rock Girls Akiakane and DIRTY PRETTY THINGS!!!!! WOw, what a show!!!! Wicked wicked wicked. Super tight, energetic and sweaty-sexy!!! The Absinthe Fairy paid us a visit and I think I discovered the key to making me a dancing fool! Wish DPT would have come to meet us at the bar afterall but had a great time this weekend anyway!

back

Well I"m back from my Great Northern Adventure... It was 2 months of Canada after a 4 year absence and it was long overdue. Despite the month-long Strep Throat incident, it was awesome (and yes, I AM STILL saying AWESOME). I didn't get to see everyone but not to worry! Mid Pearl Jam (Part 1) I decided that Canada deserves to see a lot more of me and I am now working on the plan to go back to University hopefully next fall as I"d like to try to start school BEFORE I turn 30! Psychology will never be the same once I've infected it with my Alien ways!

As you all know, I cannot be counted upon to follow through with nor have clear consistent plans or goals so I will say this, "Expect to see me sometime in the future for some sort of lenghtened stay, quite possibly on one or more of your sofas." Oh and I'll give you free counselling if I ever make it that far.

To finish this off (I"m not much of a 'blogger'), I had a kick-ass time in Canada and thanks to all who made it so. I miss you all and can't wait to see you again.

Hug o' war

"I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins."

garbage

Garbage trucks in Taipei play Fir Elise as they drive around. And you have to personally put your garbage in them.
